“Jay is amazing. After a car accident my wife and I started working with Jay after seeing his post on Facebook. I had been to chiropractors, pain management docs, and massage therapist. I got temporary relief but nothing last. After seeing Jay just one time I noticed a lasting relief, within two weeks I was 70% better.”
“For a year and a half, I suffered from sciatic nerve pain. Within 2 weeks, my sciatic pain decreased dramatically. He has since moved me into a weightlifting regimen at the gym, and my sciatic nerve pain is headed towards non-existence!”
“Unfortunately, I have, and continue to be, somewhat of a weekend warrior. As a result, I have sustained many injuries over the years…After only about 5 or 6 sessions, problems that I thought would be with me forever, were all of the sudden reversed, which was nothing less than stunning to me.”
An CMSS™ is a practitioner who uses a unique thought process and science-based technical skill set to address your issues with poor movement, muscle tightness, and muscle and joint pain. CMSS™ practitioners take the time to carefully identify aspects of your muscle system where its quality has been decreased, identify opportunities for improvement in areas with low quality motor control, and provide you with the education your body requires to complete and maintain these improvements to your system. The following are the CMSS™’s objectives for positively impacting our clients:
The CMSS treats people, not problems. The types of problems people come to us are outlined here.
You can find each practitioners’ credentials, history and experience here: Team Credentials.
That really does depend on your personal history and confounding factors. Typically you will begin to see changes immediately but we should have a good idea if our service is working for you within several visits depending on the nature of your situation. It may take longer – the body is extremely complicated and is an excellent compensator! It will take less time to improve your health if your physiology is placed in the right position.
They work together as needed. Many clients that work with the CMSS choose to participate in the personal training program. If that happens, the CMSS shares all the relevant information with the PT so they are more familiar with the client’s capabilities. Conversely, if a PT client ever has an issue, the CMSS can help with, they can be referred to for an evaluation.
Our Personal Training focuses on those that have not found success with traditional exercise options. We focus on those that truly want a plan specifically for them. We do not offer a program for clients to fit in. We make the program fit the client. We are built for people that need individualized attention. We don’t have a one-time assessment then train perspective. We have an ongoing, simultaneous assessing/training perspective which leads to more efficient results in a safer way. Symmetry PT is different in a number of ways. We only employ professional trainers who enjoy a career solely as a PT. PT is not a side job. It is their only job. We have a powerful background in anatomy, biomechanics, and physics. Our PT focus is on longevity and health. We’re not interested in trends & fads. We’re interested in creating exercise that fits you based on your mechanics, history and goals, not what is popular. We are interested in results you can keep, not just ones you can quickly achieve. This is about your health over time. We do not take shortcuts. Education is a top priority. You won’t find expired certifications or gaps in education. You’ll find professionals committed to this industry and education. Trainers utilize a unique binder system to track and progress each client.
While the work of a Certified Muscle System Specialist™ and the work of a physical therapist may look similar, the philosophy and thought process differ greatly.
Physical therapy generally focuses on a patient’s complaint of pain or tightness, and as a result the therapy is almost always performed on or around the area of the patient’s pain. The physical therapy approach often subscribes to the philosophy of “local problem, local solution”
A Certified Muscle System Specialist™ sees the body as one interconnected, integrated, and interacting system. This philosophy provides the underpinnings for our approach.
Instead of focusing directly on the part where you feel pain, our work focus is on your control. Any area of the body with low-quality muscular control can contribute to a problem with movement, pain, tightness, or discomfort you are experiencing in any other area of their body. As we help you improve control throughout your system, we can elicit a significant, positive effect on how your entire body feels and moves. Our clients are often surprised that improving muscle control in an area can improve pain they were experiencing at a different location of their body!
We take a full-body approach to solving control issues throughout your system!
No – we are not approved by most providers for insurance reimbursement. Some company Health Savings Accounts (HSA’s) and wellness plans may allow our services to be reimbursed. This can be evaluated on a case by case basis.
Please note that we are not interested in participating in third party reimbursement programs because we believe there are inherent limitations in service that come with those relationships. We work for you and you make the decisions. If you are only interested in pursuing health by having an insurance company pay for it then there are many providers available to do that.
Since 2013
Unless there has been a new injury, or if your doctor says he wants you to specifically do more prescribed physical therapy, yes. In fact, a large majority of the clients that see a CMSS do so after physical therapy has completed and they have still not recovered to their desired level.
