Injury Prevention Personal Training: What Actually Reduces Risk? đ§ đď¸ââď¸
Does your approach to injury prevention personal training actually reduce injury risk?
Not âbe careful.â Not âlisten to your body.â
I mean: how many specific things are built into your training to reduce injury riskâon purpose?
At Symmetry Exercise Clinic, thatâs not an afterthought. Weâve built an entire system around training in a way that minimizes injury riskâand we can teach it to you.
Why are we so obsessive about injury prevention?
Because lifting weights is the #1 most important thing you can do to age well and to avoid what we call diseases (or states) of neglect.
Not diseases of aging. Diseases of neglect.
Meaning: theyâre not âcoming because youâre getting olderâ⌠theyâre coming because youâre not doing what your body requires.
Hereâs what neglect produces:
- Increased risk of almost every type of disease, including cancer and mental health disease
- Bone loss / osteoporosis
- Loss of muscle mass (losing actual muscle)
- Loss of strength
- Loss of conditioning (endurance and power)
- Loss of energy
These are products of neglectânot products of aging.
And if you care about body compositionâŚ
If you want to keep body fat down and maintain some semblance of an attractive body (however you define attractive) â lifting weights in a strategic, progressive manner is an integral part of it.
Hereâs the bigger point:
When we say âlifting weights,â we donât mean random workouts, random variety, or just âgetting sweaty.â
We mean Strategic Progressive Resistance Training (SPRT).
We call it that for a reason:
- Strategic = the exercises, loads, ranges, and progressions are chosen on purpose.
- Progressive = the stimulus increases over time so your body has a reason to adapt.
Thatâs the whole point. â
And to be blunt:
There isnât a close second. You must do it.
Why Injury Prevention Personal Training Must Be Sustainable đ
- The results you want from Strategic Progressive Resistance Training come very, very slowly.
- They continue to come for a very long timeâyears and years and years.
- If you stop doing it, you lose those results.
That means you need to continue doing Strategic Progressive Resistance Training for decades.
And thatâs exactly why itâs so important to train in a way that avoids injury.
Back to the original question đ
When you work with a professional, are they training you in a way that avoids injury?
And are they teaching you to train in a way that avoids injury?
I mean specific things to do.
We doâand we can teach you
We can teach you whether you want to train with us, or whether you want to learn how to do it by yourself. You can decide that. If youâre not sure, we can help you decide.
Remember: youâre talking about diseases and states of neglect, not diseases of aging. That means theyâre coming if you neglect them.
It also means:
- results come slowly and for a long time, and
- when you stop training, they go away.
So if youâre going to train hard, intensely, and for decadesâmaybe your whole lifeâthen you need to do it in a way thatâs safe. đĄď¸đď¸ââď¸
