Kirby Retzer began his career with the Boston Red Sox Strength and Conditioning staff as a college intern in 2013. Upon graduation from the Exercise Science program at Florida Gulf Coast University, he was hired by the Minnesota Twins where he oversaw their rookie-level operations and injury rehabilitation programs for two seasons. Then, from 2016 to 2023, Kirby returned to the Red Sox and held 4 different leadership positions throughout his 8 seasons with the team. During his tenure with the Red Sox, he earned a Master’s degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis on Orthopedic Rehabilitation and studied to become a Certified Muscle Systems Specialist. Kirby has been able to prolong the careers of present major league players and develop some of the young rising stars in the game today. He left the Red Sox organization to spend more time with his family and work with Symmetry.

Functional Movement Systems – Y-Ballance Testing, Movement/Capacity Screening
These courses teach practitioners how to evaluate movement patterns that support activities of daily living. Once clinicians understand how to determine a person’s mobility and motor control, they are taught program design to help clients achieve their movement goals.
Exercise and Pain: A New Perspective
This course explores the relationship between a person’s bio-motor control quality and their report of pain and other sensations they don’t like. It explores the role and responsibilities of Exercise Professionals in working with pain within the context of exercise.

Louisville Slugger Warriors National Amputee Baseball Team
Lead strength and conditioning coach for the team of U.S Military Veterans, Active-Duty personnel, Wounded Warriors, and current/former amputee college baseball players. Responsible for creating resistance training programs for each player to prepare them for the demands of baseball.
ALTIS Apprenticeship Course Program
This four-day course is a fully immersive experience with world-renowned track and field coaches to learn the principles of efficient running mechanics. Students learn to develop progressive exercise programs to increase lower body power and running speed.

This course teaches scientifically based concepts to optimize training, as well as hands-on teaching and complete technical progressions of weightlifting movement.
